Job Description
The Program Director, Planned Giving serves as the staff lead for Northwestern Memorial Foundation’s comprehensive planned giving program. This individual is responsible for the development and execution of strategies and tactics to increase planned gift disclosures to the health system.
The Program Director, Planned Giving works closely with and reports to the Senior Vice President of Philanthropy. This individual serves as a partner and coach to the development team to support them as they pursue planned giving opportunities, assisting them in the design and implementation of individual strategies for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of planned gifts. Also partners with donor relations and stewardship teams, operations staff members, communications staff and other functions throughout the health system to ensure the overall health and vitality of the planned giving program.
While responsible for the development and execution of planned giving strategy, this individual also maintains relationships with key planned giving donors and prospects, as well as other internal stakeholders such as health system leadership, administration and medical staff.
Responsibilities:
- Personally manage a portfolio of planned giving donors and prospects.
- Identify, cultivate, and advance relationships with major donor prospects in support of NM’s strategic objectives.
- Manage planned giving team. Develop goals and metrics to measure success of planning giving programs.
- Serve as content expert for planned giving function and support the training of all staff related to planned giving.
- Grow Northwestern Memorial Foundation’s planned giving society.
- Support campaign initiatives as they relate to planned giving.
- Partner with stewardship staff to establish goals for planned giving program to ensure timely and consistent stewardship of donors and prospects.
- Build and nurture strong relationships with financial, legal and tax advisors.
- Manage projects, outside consultants and vendors effectively.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree;
- 5+ years of experience in a fundraising, community outreach, healthcare or development position with a proven track record, preferably in a non-profit organization;
- Ability to earn the confidence of a wide range of internal and external constituents and to network within a professional, corporate environment;
- Demonstrated project management, organizational, analysis and problem-solving skills;
- Excellent oral, communication and interpersonal skills;
- High degree of professionalism, sensitivity, and integrity;
- Strong intellectual curiosity, initiative and highly effective listening/communication skills;
- Proven ability to meet deadlines, communicate effectively and track details;
- Demonstrate high levels of leadership and flexibility in a team environment;
- Comfortable leading multiple projects, accurately setting priorities for team(s) on a regular basis, thinking creatively and working as both a collaborative team member and leader;
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Preferred:
- Healthcare fundraising experience;
- Prior staff, budget and operational management experience;
- Public speaking and presentation skills;
- Advanced degree;
- Excellent knowledge of Raiser’s Edge database.
