Director, Individual Giving at United Way of Metro Chicago

    POSITION OVERVIEW:

    The Director, Individual Giving is responsible for the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual donors in collaboration with a growing team which includes the Senior Manager, Giving Societies. The Director, Individual Giving will be donor-centered, data-driven, innovative, and results oriented to meet fundraising goals and targets that lead to sustainable growth of the United Way of Metro Chicago individual giving program.

    CORE RESPONSIBILITIES 

    • Activate and lead a comprehensive individual giving program that facilitates donor acquisition and retention at all giving levels through the implementation of donor strategy plans and stewardship processes that support a culture of philanthropy. (50%)
    • Manage the growing Individual Giving Team which includes the Senior Manager, Giving Societies. (20%)
    • Recruit and activate volunteers to drive a major gifts strategy as part of the individual giving program. (10%)
    • Prepare executive leadership and volunteers for interactions with current and prospective major donors including briefings, meeting agendas and any required materials. (5%)
    • Oversee key aspects of donor relations including, but not limited to accurate gift processing, timely and personalized acknowledgements and receipts, maintaining accurate donor contact information, and create all relevant reports. (10%)
    • Maintain knowledge of current industry trends, best practices, and research to enhance development practices. (5%)
    • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the management team.

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE 

    • Bachelors in related field and/or combination of equivalent employment and education experience.
    • Minimum of five years of fundraising experience with a demonstrated ability to secure individual gifts of $10,000 and above.
    • Ability to cultivate, engage, and maintain relationships with donors and volunteers.
    • Superior and effective communication skills, both written and verbal. Comfortable presenting to large and diverse groups. 
    • Possesses a collaborative, innovative spirit and the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage concurrent projects and day-to-day tasks effectively within a fast-paced environment. 
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office environment and have strong donor database experience.
