Presentation & Speaker Details

Special Needs & Charitable Planning: Important Perspectives of Parents, Siblings, Family and Partner Organizations
We will address considerations in charitable planning for individuals with special needs, from financial vehicles to estate planning, to guidance in dealing with family members and partner organizations. Benji Rubin and Bob Bourke will also share their perspectives from their own families’ personal experience with having loved ones with special needs to provide the audience with an overview of all the people and partner organizations to involve in financial and estate planning. The session will provide an overview the critical role a Planned Giving Officer can have in addressing perceived sensitive issues to help these impacted families put together a plan utilizing the best planning techniques available.

CFRE: Full participation is applicable for 1.25 points in Category 1.B – Education of the CFRE International application for initial certification and/or recertification.
MCLE: Participants will earn 1.25 hour of MCLE credit. CCPG is an approved MCLE provider.
CFP:
Participants will earn 1.5 hours of CFP credit. CCPG is an approved CFP provider. 

Benjamin A. Rubin, Esq., LLM, President, Rubin Law
An attorney, Benjamin (Benji) Rubin is the President of Rubin Law, a firm whose practice is limited to future planning for his fellow families of individuals with special needs.  Benji’s brother Mitchell has severe Autism and lives in a group home in the northwest suburbs of Chicago.  Having Mitchell as a brother profoundly shaped who Benji is today, & thus the area of law he chose to practice.  His personal experiences as a sibling offer a unique perspective into the responsibilities that come with caring for a sibling with special needs, a concern that he shares with all brothers & sisters of individuals with special needs.

Robert R. Bourke, Director of Planned Giving, Misericordia
Bob is a retired financial services executive. Currently a full time volunteer at Misericordia. His duties include being Director of Planned Giving. 

Partnering With Major Gift Officers to Achieve Success for Your Gift Planning Program
National Gift Planning Standard #2 states: “The nonprofit has a strong internal business case for gift planning embraced by management and board.” So how does a leader of a gift planning program achieve this?  Elizabeth believes that strong internal partnerships, particularly with major gift officers (MGOs), is the key. Through examples and stories, she will share how she was able to prove the value of Gift Planning’s Program to its Leadership.

Elizabeth Ayers, J.D., UNC - Chapel Hill
Elizabeth Ayers is the Executive Director of Gift Planning at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a former member of the Board of National Association of Charitable Gift Planners (NACGP) and served as NCPP 2017 Conference Chair. She is also a member of NACGP Leadership Institute and the North Carolina Planned Giving Council where she served on its Board from 2013 through 2016.

Prior to joining UNC in 2008 she worked at The Ohio State University, where she served as Director of Planned Giving for the Medical Center and Associate Director of Planned Giving for the University. She has worked for the Columbus Foundation, served on non-profit boards and committees and was president of Central Ohio Planned Giving Council in 2007.

Ayers has presented on various charitable topics at local and national conferences including NACGP, PPP, Crescendo, NCPGC, AAMC, Wealth Counsel, the North Carolina Community College Fundraisers' state conference, UNC System Conference and AFP North Carolina state conference. She has practiced law in the areas of estate and charitable planning and civil litigation. She holds a JD from Capital University, M. M. from Ohio University, and a B. M. from Wittenberg University.

Cancellations/Refunds: Cancellations must be received by 12:00 pm two business days prior to the event in order to receive a full refund. No refunds will be processed after this time. Cancellations must be in writing and may be submitted to cteed@ccpgonline.org. Additionally, payment is expected from no-shows.
