Demystifying Post-Death Administration: A Candid Conversation Between a Fiduciary and a Charitable Bequest Administrator
The estate settlement process can be daunting for charitable beneficiaries. Our presentation consists of a candid conversation between a professional fiduciary who specializes in post-death administration and a planned giving professional who administers bequests for a public charity. Through this dialogue, the presenters will use real-life examples from the administration of estates and trusts that include charitable bequests and distributions to help charitable beneficiaries better understand their rights and responsibilities when an estate or trust gift they have been cultivating for years has “matured” as a result of the donor’s death. The simple idea is to help planned giving professionals better understand the information that is owed to them during the post-death administration process, advise them about the information they may be called upon to provide to the fiduciary, and to set realistic expectations about the length of the process and how long it should typically take for them to receive their distribution following the death. It is also about empowering the charitable beneficiaries to question the actions and decisions of the fiduciary and hold the fiduciary accountable, particularly if such actions or decisions directly or indirectly impact the financial interests of the charitable beneficiaries.

10:15 AM - 11:15 AM – 2nd Session
Using Portfolio Reviews to Maximize Planned Gift Activity Across Your Organization
Those of us who work with frontline fundraisers are no strangers to the concept of portfolio management.  How can those of us who focus all or more of our work on Gift Planning most effectively support the work of our major gift colleagues as they attempt to move planned giving prospects through the fundraising cycle? One way is to implement a formal portfolio review program. In this session, the presenters will discuss how to design and facilitate portfolio reviews that focus specifically on gift planning opportunities. Attendees will learn about the many benefits (and challenges) associated with this important work, including tips that can be applied in any development shop, regardless of size.

CFRE: Participants will earn 1 hour of CFRE credit. CCPG is an approved CFRE provider.
