Nuts & Bolts

SUMMARY:
As our morning program is an interactive case study, there is some “homework” for you to do prior to attending the session.  You can either (i) view the homework video at the University Club from 9:45 am-10:30 am on Tuesday, April 25, or (ii) view it on your own prior to the Bi-Monthly meeting.  We will send all registered attendees a link to the video on Tuesday, April 18.  If you have already watched the video on your own, you can join us at the University Club from 10:00 -10:30 am for an informal networking coffee, or arrive at 10:30 am for the main program.

10:30- 11:45 AM - Morning Session

TOPIC:
Designing Charitable Gifts with Noncash Assets: An Interactive Case Study

SUMMARY:
Our community is home to many millionaires next door. They are business owners, real estate investors, collectors, community boosters, and Baby Boomers thinking about transitioning from success to significance as they retire. There are great opportunities for philanthropy when businesses, real estate, land and other valuables are transferred. It’s clear, however, that noncash assets aren’t activated for philanthropy nearly as often as they should be. This two-part program will prepare you to discuss charitable strategies for noncash assets with your donors and clients. Your registration gives you access to both an on-demand video (to watch on your own prior to the Bi-Monthly meeting, or to view during the Nuts & Bolts session on Tuesday, April 25) that introduces challenges and opportunities and a live program during which you’ll analyze a case with other advisors, guided by a panel of experts.

  • Learn to recognize assets that are ideal for philanthropy and often yield very significant gifts.
  • Increase your confidence in the contribution you can make as a philanthropic advisor on your donor or clients planning team.
  • Expand your contacts with advisors throughout the community who can assist in the complex process of transferring noncash assets to charity.
  • Consider ways to keep assets that were built locally at work in the community, even when they seem too complex for many local organizations to accept.

TOPIC:
A Defining Moment for Endowments

SUMMARY:
For those of us who work with small to medium-sized organizations, the term “endowment” brings to mind multi-million dollar donors, investment portfolios, large universities, and generally "out of our reach."  The truth is that investment income is only part of the story, that a single five-figure fund can have major impact, and that named endowed funds can provide the frameworks for soliciting blended gifts.  In his presentation, Jonathan will demonstrate the multiple benefits of these remarkable funds--available to any not-for-profit organization.

SPEAKER:
Jonathan H. Hand, Consulting Associate
Heaton Smith Group, LLC
