    WTTW (Chicago PBS) and WFMT (classical music radio station) are looking for a Director of Development, Major Gifts to raise revenue through developing relationships with prospects and donors that result in financial support for WTTW and WFMT, with an emphasis on raising funds for WTTW News.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Support fundraising around WTTW News:

    • Manage the pipeline of donors identified and qualified as prospective major donors to WTTW News using tools within the Tessitura database. Implement cultivation strategies, determine stage moves, ensure accurate prospect tracking.
    • Strategize with members of the development team around the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major donors to WTTW News.
    • Produce proposals, stewardship reports, prospect briefing memos, and other written materials as needed for fundraising for WTTW News.
    • Support the participation of executive staff and members of the Board Development Committee in donor and prospect meetings by setting up meeting logistics as necessary, including providing briefing materials and funding recommendations, and follow up materials such as solicitations, touchpoints, etc.
    • Work with members of the development team and colleagues in other departments to coordinate efforts around launching and building The WTTW Fund for Independent News and ensuring accurate donor recognition.

    Portfolio management:

    • Cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of 125 - 150 prospects and major gift donors to WFMT and WTTW at the $5,000 - $25,000 level, with an emphasis on donors to WTTW News.

    • Conduct 15 to 20 meaningful points of contact a week with donors, making regular in-person donor visits a priority when health and safety precautions allow.

    • Work with manager of stewardship to ensure the intricate benefit fulfillment for donors, including appropriate and accurate recognition and personalized, meaningful contacts.

    • Work with associate director of events to facilitate invitations to events that align with donor interests and attend events, which include occasional evenings and weekends.

    • Participate in donor travel if required.

    • Other duties as assigned.

    Leadership responsibilities:

    • Lead by example with positive attitude, and goal-oriented, focused approach to developing internal and external relationships that result in increased funding for WTTW and WFMT.

    • Act in a team-centric, results-oriented manner, anticipating needs and promoting completion of numerous projects. Handle confidential materials with sensitivity and discretion.

    • Communicate clearly and eloquently, always acting as an ambassador for the institution among donors and across departments within the organization.

    • Become an expert in WTTW News and other program areas as needed to raise restricted support for News and special projects.

    • Exhibit always strong donor-centric motives in the cultivation and stewardship of friends, volunteers, and donors that result in increased revenue for WTTW and WFMT.

    SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    • Word and Excel are required; Publisher and PowerPoint are a plus.

    • CRM experience required; Tessitura experience a plus.

    • Strategic, creative, self-motivated.

    • Excellent people skills.

    • Excellent organizational and planning skills.

    • Ability to handle detailed work with accuracy and enthusiasm.

    EXPERIENCE:  Candidate must have 5-7 years front line major gift fundraising experience, including making asks and closing gifts. Must also have experience presenting written and verbal information for the purposes of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major donors.

    MINIMUM EDUCATION:  Bachelor’s Degree required, advanced degree or CFRE a plus.
