    Working as part of a team, the development officer will:

    • Renew and upgrade current major gift and corporate donors
    • Research potential new major gift and corporate donors
    • Acquire new major gift and corporate donors
    • Support the executive director and board of directors in identifying and securing corporate sponsors for special events, as well as corporate matching opportunities
    • Initiate, lead and/or participate in strategy sessions with advancement colleagues related to individual, corporate and foundation prospects to multiple university colleges and units and/or interdisciplinary special fundraising initiatives
    • Represent ACI at networking and meetings as needed
    • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned


    The ideal candidate should enjoy working in a small, dynamic, results-oriented environment. In addition, the ideal candidate should bring the following specific skills and experience to the role:

    • Passion for higher education and the liberal arts and sciences
    • 5+ years of experience working with major gifts and/or corporate development
    • Ability to think strategically with a deep understanding of donor cultivation
    • Proven ability to build strong external relationships with a variety of stakeholders
    • Familiarity with and exposure to the Illinois corporate and philanthropic community
    • Ability to work collaboratively with individuals, teams and work groups
    • Excellent communication (written and oral) with strong negotiation and presentation skills
    • Bachelor’s degree
