    Job Description

    General Summary of Position Responsibility:      

    The Development Officer, Planned Giving, provides logistical and project management support for the Planned Giving team in executing its development activities. Under the supervision of the Director, Planned Giving, this individual will participate in the planning and implementation of programs and practices which cultivate, solicit and steward prospective and existing donors with an emphasis on developing planned and outright gifts that require financial and estate planning expertise.


    Essential Job Functions:

    Area Specific Job Accountabilities:

    1. Administer matured estates until gifts are received and estates are closed. This involves working with attorneys and trustees, and tracking and managing information regarding potential and confirmed estate gifts.
    2. Track gift annuity donors and annuitants in Crescendo Administration and implement the required schedule of appropriate payments and timely reports.
    3. Participate in the planning and implementation of strategies and activities that promote the planned giving program. Coordinate the creation and distribution of planned giving publications.
    4. Assist the Director, Planned Giving, in engaging current and prospective members of the John P. Wilson Society.
    5. Support the work being done with Legacy Partners. Assist the Director, Planned Giving, in developing effective working relationships with professional advisors in the legal, financial and banking communities.
    6. Collaborate with colleagues in major gifts, communications, prospect management & research, donor relations, and other departments to ensure the success of the planned giving effort.
    7. Manage and complete existing projects for the office of planned giving. Design, manage and complete new projects as they arise, including those that relate to donors, advisors, board reports, or analysis of some specific area within the planned giving area.
    8. Assist the Director, Planned Giving, with portfolio management, calendar maintenance, administrative duties and other tasks as assigned.  

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    1. Undergraduate degree from an accredited college required. Advanced degree with an emphasis in management and/or marketing preferred.
    2. Two to three years of experience in fundraising, preferably in planned giving.
    3. General understanding of tax and other aspects of planned giving vehicles.
    4. Experience with Raiser’s Edge preferred.
    5. Ability to develop and execute fundraising strategies, administer gifts efficiently and accurately, and keep accurate records
    6. Discretion with confidential materials
    7. Excellent written and oral communication skills
    8. High level of spreadsheet and database software experience
    9. Ability to work independently in a deadline-oriented team environment
    10. Attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and execute multiple projects under demanding deadlines.
    11. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills as well as creativity and resourcefulness.
