    The Foundation Planned Giving Officer (PGO) is a leader in the Intermountain Foundation, providing leadership to the philanthropic programs in complex planned gifts, estates, blended gift, and related areas. The position leads the strategic planning and implementation efforts for a robust system-driven planned giving platform for the Foundation, including broad-based, as well as targeted marketing efforts, literature and web-based content development, development of planned-giving metrics for annual goals, and training and support activities for gift officers. The PGO serves as a liaison to area Executive Directors, Directors of Development (DODs), Major Gift Officers (MGOs), and the Foundation Leadership Team on various aspects of planned gift prospecting, strategy, structure, and solicitation. This position is a resource expert within the Foundation and monitors, tracks, closes, and consistently stewards charitable gifts related to estates in process, works with donor professional advisors, advises in the acceptance of complex planned gifts, and develops and carries out planned giving strategy and proposals for system campaign efforts. The position is a resource to assist area Executive Directors, DoDs and MGOs to meet annual goals for soliciting and closing irrevocable planned gifts and for developing and discovering revocable planned gifts within a defined and assigned pool of prospective planned gift donors. The PGO carries a portfolio of high-wealth planned gift donor prospects and works continually to direct and conduct a defined program of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship for planned giving across the system.

    Scope

    This is a system-level specialized expertise position that interacts with all facets of the Foundation and many important and influential audiences in the external community. It oversees strategy and conduct of specialized fundraising activities, complex financial arrangements, supervises staff, and has interactions with community-based professionals in legal, banking, and investment industries throughout the state. The position has a hardline reporting relationship to the Intermountain Foundation Vice President.

    Job Essentials


    Develops a strategic plan with appropriately aggressive short- and long-range goals and supporting metrics to meet the system funding objectives and to enlist/motivate the support of operational leadership, frontline managers and staff, governing boards, physicians, and volunteers.


    Develops and manages a comprehensive planned giving fundraising program with emphasis on support from individuals, families, foundations, and corporations.


    Designs and implements ongoing effective planned giving programming, including a systematic process of identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of identified planned gift donors and prospects at a system level.


    Develops system-wide Planned Giving printed materials, other media, and web-based programming.
    Oversees, approves, and advances planned gift proposals and agreements.
    Carries a personal portfolio of planned gift donor prospects.


    Develops appropriate guidelines, materials, proposals, presentations, and related content for use by local gift officers in prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, recognition, and stewardship.


    Manages processes to track at the system level the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of planned gifts from individuals, physicians, employees, foundations, and corporations.


    Manages processes to successfully track and move forward maturing planned gifts (estates, trusts, etc.) to efficiently close these donations in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring appropriate valuation, recording, and acknowledgement of these gifts.

    Administers and manages Intermountain Foundation’s Charitable Gift Annuity program.


    Collaborates and works closely with Intermountain's Accounting and Finance Departments for valuation, acceptance, and monitoring of complex planned gift arrangements and to develop and maintain audit-compliant records.


    Conducts system-level cultivation, donor engagement and recognition, and communication programs and activities for planned gift donors and prospects including expansion/growth of a planned giving society, or the like.


    Recommends strategies and processes for recognition and recording of planned gifts.


    Serves as a public speaker on behalf of local Foundation offices and Intermountain Healthcare as requested.


    Is actively engaged in the community.


    Pursues continued professional development through education activities and conferences, to enhance and increase specialized fundraising skills and to stay abreast of industry trends and best practices, as well as related tax and legislative developments.


    Serves as a subject matter expert and resource to others on issues related to healthcare philanthropy.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified.

    Seven years as a fundraising professional including accomplished experience in a leadership position and with demonstrated achievement in systematic major gift fundraising with program/staff management.

    Three years demonstrated accomplishment complex planned giving philanthropy programming and gift stewardship, including all aspects of estates, trusts, tangible personal property and real estate and appreciated assets gift vehicles
    - and -
    Knowledge of current tax laws and contemporary planned giving vehicles and the ability to teach and train other development professionals in the basics of planned giving.
    - and -
    Experience in a complex matrix organization.
    - and -
    Effective and motivating interpersonal skills, including relationship building and communication, in-person, over the phone, and via email with diverse groups of people (e.g. volunteers, civic/business leaders, board members, patients and their families, hospital staff, foundations and corporations, etc).

    Demonstrated success in organizing and effectively utilizing volunteer leadership (ie committees) in effective planned giving fundraising practices
    - and -
    Demonstrated strong analytic and creative skills used to develop best practices, set strategic goals and consistently assess outcomes.

    Strong project planning and management skills, demonstrating detail orientation, timeliness, and ability to work under pressure.

    Advanced writing skills that produce clear, accurate, and persuasive communications (proposal materials, letters, presentations, etc.).

    Success in collaborating with colleagues in a complex matrix organization.

    Experience using common software programs including Raisers Edge, donor records systems, Internet research tools and social media applications.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in non-profit management, philanthropic studies, public administration, public relations, communications, marketing, English, or business.

    Master's degree in Business,, or Juris Doctor.

    Professional certification in CFRE or FAHP

    Certified Planned Giving (CPG) certified

    Fundraising experience in a healthcare environment.
